CPD courses for heritage and archaeology practitioners
Heritage Innovation is developing a programme of rigorous, practice-led CPD courses for heritage and archaeology professionals. Our courses are designed for mid-career and experienced practitioners seeking to deepen their expertise, demonstrate professional development, and progress their CIfA membership or equivalent qualifications.
Our first course launches in July 2026.
Further courses will follow across 2026–27.
Online CPD course, launching in July 2026
Ethical practice is at the heart of professional archaeology — but the pressures of commercial work, institutional priorities and rapidly changing social expectations make ethical decision-making increasingly complex. This course provides a rigorous, practical framework for navigating those challenges.
Developed by the authors of Ethics in Archaeological Practice (Routledge, 2025) — the definitive professional text on the subject — this is a course grounded in real-world practice rather than abstract theory.
The course is delivered across 8 modules, each divided into 3–4 sessions, and is completed entirely online at your own pace. It is designed to fit around the demands of professional practice.
The course is aimed at heritage and archaeology professionals at mid-level and above — including those seeking to upgrade their CIfA membership, demonstrate structured CPD to employers or clients, or deepen their understanding of professional ethics in a rapidly evolving regulatory and social context.
CIfA approval is in progress. Successful completion will count towards your structured CPD record.
The course launches in July 2026. Register your interest now and we'll contact you as soon as enrolment opens — with early access and full course details.
We are developing further courses covering key areas of heritage and archaeology practice. If there is a topic you would like to see addressed, we'd welcome your suggestions.
Heritage Innovation CPD courses are developed by practitioners with over 30 years of international experience in archaeology and cultural heritage management.
Our lead course developer, Dr Paul Belford FSA MCIfA, is the co-author of Ethics in Archaeological Practice (Routledge, 2025).
